Summer residence of the President of the Czech Republic

Lány

The chateau was built in the early 17th century. It was originally a hunting lodge, but it was later expanded and remodeled into a Baroque chateau.

In 1921, the chateau was purchased by the Czechoslovak government and became the official summer residence of the President. The first president to use the chateau was Tomáš Masaryk.

The park was established in the 18th century and is home to many species of trees, shrubs and flowers. The park also has several greenhouses that are home to tropical and subtropical plants. The largest greenhouse in the park is the Palm Greenhouse, which was built in 1879 and is home to more than 1,000 species of plants. There are also several ponds, waterfalls and fountains in the park.

The park and greenhouses were renovated by Masaryk's court architect, Jože Plečnik.

The park and greenhouses are open to the public.

We will have a lunch in Bechnerův statek.
